Comeback record of the century

I, like most, found out about this band due to their inclusion on the Return of the Living Dead soundtrack. I thought Love Under Will was a great song. Very new wave and psychadelic, with a timeless sound all its own. When still known as New Math, their music channeled this feel perfectly. Lots of synths, organs, mellatron. Its all there, lush and dense. After the changed their name to JJB, the music began to have a southern twang to it. Space western tunes, very light and jangly. After they called it quits round 88, all was silent. That is, until the arrival of a new three song ep in 2009. Followed by this, their first full length in 22 years. 6 songs are re-recordings of old New Math tunes. New singer Johnny Cummings has a voice tailored for this kind of music. He has a modern, youthful vibe to his singing while still having the flexibility to make the songs sound vintage. He is a good look for the band and makes the old songs new again. The 5 new tracks are great. In fact, albums highlights include Nightmare Psychic Children of Doom (what a grand title), with its 60's psychadelic choppy feel and a swirly bridge (we are the children...) and Give It All Away which channels The Bends-era Radiohead and touches of Muse perhaps. That song is epic and melodic and provides amazing sonic diversity. My favorite track is the revamped They Walk Among You. Simply amazing. Love the end with the added vocal tracks that really deliver the message. THEY WALK AMONG YOU. Buy this record.

Put me to sleep

I find no passion in this music of any kind. It is sensless and pointless. This is so dated and would have been ahead of it's time back in 1955, Thank god they all have good day jobs.
