Inspirational!!!
From the first words of the liner notes to the last notes of Ambrose's trumpet, this recording is INPIRATIONAL! His composing and extrordinary playing help to exemplify his spirit and maturity. His sound is as accessible as it is unique and his band is as good (better) as any... This is is a must have for any music listener who wants to know what most other musicians will be striving to do in years to come...
What a killer player...
I got to play with Ambrose at a jam session at Cleopatra's Needle- what a great guy and a great player. This is only the tip of the iceberg.
A brilliant artist with a bright future ahead
Ambrose is special, because even though his improvisations can be angular at times, the enormity, warm and beauty of his sound make even the most harmonically dissonant phrases accessible to even the most casual listener. Combine that with an obviously deep understanding of the blues, the history of his instrument and a gift for melodic development and you have a player who I believe to be the future of jazz trumpet.
