iTunes Review

Ludo's fourth album borrows bravely from the cartoonish darkness of Oingo Boingo as frontman Andrew Volpe sings of skeletons, witches, curses, pirates, cyborgs, robots, leprechauns, grave-robbing lovers, and a cyclops, while his band plays quirky guitar-pop. "Too Tired to Wink" bounces on shadowy minor chords with a fractured fairytale feel as Volpe conveys that although he smells like a corpse, he's happy to be alive. In "Cyborgs vs. Robots" big rock riffs bolster novel vocoder-affected singing that recalls the robotic vocals on Midnight Star's 1983 hit "Freakazoid." The band takes a break from geeky fantasy to bust out "Whipped Cream," a catchy power-pop single of Fountains of Wayne proportions. The mellower "Manta Rays" floats on pedaling rhythms and romantic lyrics that somehow pulls off amorous sentiment with the imagery of flattened sea creatures.

This album pretty much defines Ludo.

its literally like all of their past albums had a baby. the theatrics of broken bride, the energy of you;re awful, i love you, and the mellow toe of their self titled. also one of the most varied albums i own. from the dirty rock of whipped cream to the down south feel of all the stars in texas to the old school blues/rock of i'll never be lonely again. the album has something for every pallet. and the cherry on top of this cake of awesome is skeletons on parade, opening as a pub-sounding song, leading into a jazzy middle section and finishing off in classic Ludo fashion.

Listen more than once!

This album is like the other Ludo albums and requires more than one listen to fully appreciate. This one required more than the others, but upon my fifth or sixth listen, it is incredible! Ludo has always borrowed other bands style, but this album shows the diversity that they are capable of. Ludo has always been an amazing band, but this album definitely is as good as their last and I hope that people give it more of a chance than they have. Congrats for another great album!!

Sounds like Ludo

The album is really good. It has a similar feel to the last album and is very eclectic. it does have a fair amount of slow songs, but they're not the overly cute love songs. As per usual Ludo the lyrics are smart. Some songs are wild, like Skeletons on Parade. The whole album pulls in a bunch of different styles of music, with harder guitar riffs, some country-esque vibes, even some swing. It's never boring. Not every song is love at first listen but overall I recommend it.
