A truely great hip-hop album

About a year ago, I heard "I'm Awesome" on the radio, and wanted to dig into this funny, clever rapper's discography. I looked him up, and came accross this album. Man, was I in for something more than I thought I was. I admit to being new to the genre of hip-hop (this was the first rap album I ever owned), but this turned me on to to the art-form. Now I'm collecting all the essentials. And all of this guy's influences

In 2007, in small town Maine, lived an MC named Spose who's studio smelled of weed, shrooms and beer. The then-22-year-old was striving to write rhymes, produce beats, and flow like crazy to perfectly, like a mirror, reflect small town Maine, his varied rock and hip-hop influence, the crazy lifestyle he was living, and, above all, who he is, making sure that every rhyme went with every rhythm which went with every tone of voice which went with every beat. (His flow is so heavy, you have no clue. Master at that for sure.)

Those of you who know him for "I'm Awesome," prepared to be educated. It's a great and funny song, but it would be one of the weakest, if not the weakest track on this album. Every song here is a true highlight in it's own right. I seriously cannot pick one favorite out of the album. Granted, I have some favorites that are so over-the-top good: Preposterously Dank, Gobble a Dank, and all of the last five songs. (and yes, I know it's most of the album),but all of the others would be a highlight on a "good" (not amazing, but still good) album, execpt maybe "John Madden. I mean it's great for what it is- a song with catchey rhymes to bob your head to. The other songs are just art, though.

Most of the songs on this album have a bit of humor mixed in. I mean, the dude is funny, so they have to, but that doesn't take the spotlight from the music. There's a right amount of both- they just share it. He cuts the humor when the songs are serious (like in God Damn. No humor there, but plenty of rhymes straight from the heart), or throws it in when it's fit (like "God Damn"'s polar opposite (as far as this album goes,) "John Madden.")

He's just being himself. He's not forcing out rhymes that arn't him, not holding back anything that is him. I think that's part of what makes this album so amazing (along with EVERYTHING ELSE). I've seen people compare him to Slim Shady-era Eminem. One big difference. Slim Shady is a character. Spose isn't. (Not saying Eminem is inferior. They're both equally talented. Spose could never make SSLP or MMLP, Eminem could never make this.) Spose is just another way to say "Ryan Peters." Even his alter-ego, Peter Sparker, is just another part of him. I mean, this album is a reflection of a lifestyle, and Wells, Maine, but it's also a reflection of who Spose was at this time. It doesn't fail to reflect anything. I think he's just good at expressing and reflecting emotions. His next few albums also reflect his lifestyle really well, which has changed. That's a whole 'nother review, though.

In conclusion, this album is ****ing amazing, and all of you should buy it. If you're even hesitating, press the "buy album" button.

Coming out of Wells, ME, rapper Spose used humility and a sense of humor to separate himself from his suburban rap competition when he kicked off his career with the ironic “I’m Awesome.” Born Ryan Peters, Spose had been a fan of hip-hop since grade school. In 2005 he began to take his lyrics seriously, then in 2007 he released his own album, Preposterously Dank. Two years later he teamed with fellow Wells rapper Cam Groves for the We Smoked It All mixtape, then in January 2010 he released his single...
