Excellent Christian pop from pioneers of the genre

The Imperials have had a lot of lineups over their long history, but this one - Armond Morales, David Will, Jim Murray, and Russ Taff - was the strongest of them all. All four men had great vocal prowess and this album came when each was at the top of his game. Throw in Michael Omartian as producer/songwriter, and you've got some excellent pop music that was well above almost all Christian music from this era. No weak songs on this album, which is another rarity, especially in CCM. "Finish What You Started" with its big brass sound and totally infectious hook stands out as pop perfection, while "Any Good Time at All" and "There's No Time Till You Take It" give a tip of the cap to Steely Dan while utilizing the four-part harmony in ways you've probably never heard it. I'm shocked these tunes haven't been sampled and/or mashed up by current artists. "Trumpet of Jesus" is a signature song for the band and one that brings lots of good memories for me. At less than $9 on iTunes, this is rare gem from the early 80's that's a great bargain and one that I promise you'll love.

PRIORITY #1

I recieved this recording on cassette in 1980 when it was released. I remember the music being infections even as a child. Although I didn't know it then, this music would become the standard by which all Contemporary Christian Music would be judged and was the start of a truely outstanding sound in the Gospel music world. Russ Taff was truely masterful in the Lead singer position for the Imperials. Factoring him into the mix with the rest of the guys and with production that was cutting edge for the day in any genre, led to a recording that would stand the test of time. It definately left an impression on a five year old kid who literally wore the lettering off the tape from playing it over and over again. What a find after all these years!

AWESOME!!!!

All I can say is "WOW", after all these years, this album sounds so fresh. This is a must for anyone who loves harmonies and great songs. This was Russ Taff's last album with the Imperials. He left us wanting more. Love his solo career, but this was a defining moment in his career.

The Imperials have been making music since 1964 and have in that time undergone many personnel and stylistic changes before returning to the close harmonies and straight Southern gospel songs that originally made them popular. As of the mid-'90s, Armond Morales is the only charter member of the Imperials; he and Jake Hess founded the quintet. Over the years, 18 different singers have come and gone, including such legends...
