Album Review
Candiria's Process of Self-Development mixes hardcore, hip-hop, metal and jazz into a style the band calls "urban fusion." Tracks like "Down to the Last Element," "Pull" and "Three Times Again" pack a punch and bring the funk.

Memories...
I was around 12 or 13 when this came out and I remember I was at my friend's house and his sister put this on. I was f*ckin mesmerized and recall thinking that Carly Coma sounded like the Tasmanian Devil on crack. Then came on the track w/ Jamey Jasta and that did me in. Went out and got it the next day. Nowadays they lean more towards the straight hip-hop scene but thats normal for alot of bands to change up their style, I just can't get into it (the new stuff). For all the younger cats that are just starting to listen to bands like Origin, Psyopus, Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, Psycroptic and any technical death or grind, this is where it started. Best way to describe it: Psyopus, The Dillenger Escape Plan, and The Number 12 Looks Like You get into a bar brawl, and what survives is Candiria.
originality
This is the truest form of their urban fusion sound. One of the greatest albums of all time.
Groundbreaking for Heavy Music
It took a long time for me to get into these guys and this kind of music years back. Before Candiria, I had a more conventional taste in heavy music. But after awhile, I just kept coming back to this CD and it's descendant, "300 Percent Density". Before long these guys were my favorite band, and their brilliant combination of jazz and metal eventually turned me onto some of my other favorite bands, including Meshuggah, The Dillinger Escape Plan, and Textures. Coma's voice is a force that takes getting used to, but after awhile, it grows on you. Though not for the closed minded, if you like something different, respect talent, and like metal or hardcore, then give these guys a listen or two; or three.
