Although she has recorded relatively little, Martha Argerich has become a living legend for her technically stunning yet achingly passionate pianism. These works form a nearly ideal program to display those qualities, from the gothic atmosphere of the solo "Gaspard de la nuit" to the vibrant and witty modernism of the Prokofiev and Ravel concertos. Argerich is joined here by the most respected orchestra in the world under one of its finest conductors for these virtually unmatched concerto performances.

Amazing performances across the board!
I find that Argerich's flying fingers truly adds to these amazing pieces. The Prokofiev: her flying fingers move the slow parts while making the entire piece sparkle. Her Ravel concerto is truly one of the most amazing things I have ever heard, and yes, the Berliner Philharmoniker does keep up with her fast tempi. Where she truly shines is in Gaspard de la Nuit, where her passionate playing truly makes this the most enjoyable thing I've ever heard.
phenomenal talent
i owned this when it was released, and i own it again. it's hard to match the incredibly dynamic fire for which argerich is known. she has some of the fastest fingers on the planet, and this music benefits from her awesome technique and fiery interpretation. further, the prokofief and ravel are a great match. the clarity and precision of the orchestra make the perfect partner to argerich's performance. the "gaspard" is a fabulous complement to the orchestral pieces, and this performance is well-known. thanks for the re-release of classic perfomances of these pieces.
3rd mvt of Prokofiev will knock you off your chair...
Of all the recordings I own, this is perhaps one of the most masterful. The combination of execution, tempo, and interpretation make for an exciting performance. Argerich is arguably one of the best pianists of our time. It will make you a fan of Argerich AND Prokofiev AND Ravel.
