Album Review

Varese's original soundtrack to Psycho finds Joel McNeely conducting the Royal Scottish National Orchestra through Bernard Herrmann's classic original score. This album is the first time the entire score has been recorded for an album and its remarkable how eerie and evocative the music is, even when its separated from the film. Psycho stands as one of Herrmann's finest moments, and even if many collectors and film buffs would prefer the original soundtrack recording, this version is essential for fans of the composer, since it is the clearest, cleanest edition of score yet produced.

Customer Reviews

Oooh... spooky!

Great sound effects for Halloween, especially "The Knife!". Very spooky indeed.

Truly Breathtaking!

This "Psycho" soundtrack is fabulous. I sincerely recommend this to anyone who appreciates movie soundtracks, classics, or the movie, "Psycho". You should add this album to your collection. This soundtrack is chilling to the bone. Psycho is one of my favorite movie soundtracks, and I was born 32 years after the movie was made! Although it is not the original motion picure soundtrack, it was still phenomenal. I couldn't tell the difference between the actual soundtrack and this one. So, if originality is your concern, fret no more. The movie was great, and the soundtrack made it all the better. So what are you waiting for? Buy the album!

scary!

This music is partially what makes this movie so great, the best one is "the knife," but it should be separate purchasing...

That was an apt description for a musician who, in addition to his film work, also composed works in a variety of other forms including opera, symphony, musical comedy, and concert music, as well as writing extensively for radio and television, while maintaining a concurrent conducting...
