$6 for 18? Good deal!

Every song has its charms. "Mack the Knife" has a famous Ella screw-up--she forgets the words and tries to cover it up--and it's one of the most wonderful things to grace my ears. "How High the Moon" has some amazing scatting. Ella's "Misty" is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Look, here's the point: It's $6 for 18 songs, and they're all wonderful. Get it! You won't be disappointed.

Pure Gold

Ella Fitzgerald is easily one of the America's top contributions to contemporary music. It is often said that you could tune a piano to her voice; with her scat singing in works like "Blue Skies" and "Mr. Paganini," it's clear that she doesn't just have a pure voice and perfect pitch, Ella has an amazing capacity to express herself through her vocals, just like any talented musician with his instrument of choice. My mom introduced me to Miss Ella when I was ten; I remember her clear voice washing over me in a soft, cool sheet of bliss. To this day, Pure Ella is one of the best, well-rounded collections of any artist's music. To anyone who isn't familiar with Ella, or for anyone who wants to ease into the jazz genre and doesn't know where to start, pick up (or download) Pure Ella-- you'll beat yourself for every moment you had the chance to -- and didn't-- experience this lovely virtuoso of music!

It's difficult to remember just how exciting she was as a performer. Consequently each time you hear a number again it's like a first time all over. An excellent composite of some of her most notable and memorable recordings - excellent audio quality as well. Selections taken from her repertoire. Blessed with a beautiful voice and a wide range, Fitzgerald could outswing anyone, was a brilliant scat singer, and had near-perfect elocution; one could always understand the words she sang. The one fault was that, since she always sounded so happy to be singing, Fitzgerald did not always dig below the surface of the lyrics she interpreted...
