iTunes Review
In many ways, Quality Control is a product of its time. When it was released in June of 2000, the boom was cresting, the Y2K bug was a joke (not a threat), and the good times seemed endless. J5 were the darlings of 1990s “alternative” rap, and by the time they released this hotly anticipated full-length debut, they’d been toiling in the underground for nearly seven years. Decidedly, even defiantly, old school, Quality Control is a triumph of flow, unity, and positive vibrations--a cheerful party record that is a testament to the power of simplicity. Featuring four rappers and two DJs, it surges with a fresh, exciting, organic sound and boasts deft vocal interplay, soulful, straightforward beats, and the seamless cohesion of the two. Look no further than the Cut Chemist-produced title track, which glides across samples from ‘70s filthy funkster Blowfly and showcases J5’s trademark mix of group vocals and solo spitting. “The Influence,” produced by DJ Nu-Mark, is an anti-bling manifesto that borrows part of its melody from ‘50s jazz vocal group the Hi-Lo’s, of all people. “Jurass Finish First,” another Nu-Mark beat, cops a ‘50s snippet from West Coast jazzman Shelly Manne. Although there are a few “message” tracks, the album’s levity is its greatest asset.

One of the Best Hip-Hop Albums Out There
In the age of hip-hop cliches such as wild parties, women, crime, and drugs, these guys are a dose of medicine to help cure you of today's hip-hop ills. The beats are oh so catchy, many of them combining neat samples from the jazz/funk genre, and the DJ effects from Cut Chemist and Nu Mark are superb. The vocals are some of the best in the hip-hop game, with each MC bringing their own special way of rhyming, and when they put themselves together on certain verses and especially on the hooks, its like a hip-hop choir, and you just want to join in on the action. My favorite tracks are "Great Expectations," "Quality Control," and the piano-driven "Jurass Finish First," a track that rocks because of the combo of the verbal-gymnast Chali2NA combines his MC skills with the laid-back style of his partner Marc7. This album will be always a classic for those who like positive hip-hop and those who want intelligence behind their music, rather than the garbage you hear in daily life.
Great Album
Perhaps one of my favorite CD Albums to listen to. The difference with J5 and other artists is their ability to blend old school beats with smooth lyrics. Instead of singing about bitches, blunts and bling, Jurassic 5 sings about life in general which i believe is more realisitc. I GIVE THIS ALBUM A 5 STAR RATING
First J-5 album?Buy it.
Hey! You! Thinkin' this album is crud? It's not. Perhaps one of the best hip-hop albums. Cali Tuna gives a fresh new taste in what hip-hop should be. If you wanna be weak and just buy a song off this album definitely make it Jurass Finish First. You have to buy at least one of their songs. You will be addicted. Don't Steal Music!
