iTunes Review
Re-mastered from the original tapes and including three extra tracks laced within — “The Bronze” and “These Aren’t the Droids You’re Looking For” from the long-out-of-print 1998 QOTSA / Beaver split EP and “Spiders and Vinegaroons” from the posthumous Kyuss /QOTSA EP — this debut album redefined hard rock in a way wholly unexpected from Josh Homme, a former member of Kyuss. Gone were the low-end grumbles of the previous band and in their place were vibrant hard-rock songs that sounded like they were meant for FM Radio. Tracks such as “Regular John,” “Avon” and “If Only” were singles for the non-singles crowd. “Walkin On the Sidewalks” turns the blues upside down like a Captain Beefheart puzzle. “You Would Know” walks the floor with an early-‘70s stoner vibe that helped the band fit the “Stoner Rock” bill. Their music would evolve from here, but this refreshing debut still sounds as powerful and fun as it did upon its first release. The bonus tracks are far from throwaways. While “Spiders and Vinegaroons” sounds like a basement experiment, “The Bronze” and “Droids” are full-on QOTSA attacks.

Time capsule material
This album is so good, it doesn't need a review. Stop wasting time reading this review and buy this album. Some great songs. I listen to songs from this album almost every day.
If I had to send an album into space for other life forms to find and listen to it would be this one
Aside from being one of the most under-rated bands ever, Josh Homme is quite possibly one of the most under-rated guitarist's ever (just listen to "How to Handle a Rope" and "The Bronze".) This self-titled debut is one of the most criminally overlooked albums in rock history. Queens of the Stone Age was certainly ahead of it's time when it was first released in 1998. Download this album and it will change your life.... Forever.
WOW!!!
This album is GREAT! I don't know how I missed it the first time around, but just picked up the remastered 2011 version and I'll I can say is WOW! it's 100% constant groove mixed with surprisingly catchy melodies that beg the question, "where have I been all of your life?" I've been looking for an album like this for a long time and I'm just glad I didn't miss the boat the second time around. This is the music that makes the martians sing! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
