Album Review

Recorded with the aid of ex-Throwing Muses bassist Leslie Langston, Queer is the Wolfgang Press' leap into the world of dance music. The cover of Randy Newman's "Mama Told Me (Not to Come)" underscores the record's stranger-in-a-strange-land vibe as Michael Allen's dramatic vocals and arcane obsessions collide head-on with the ecstatic physicality and immediacy of the dancefloor; cold and remote, the result is alien funk, a collection of idiosyncratic rhythms, dark textures, and ominous grooves.

This is in my Top 25

A classic. Highly recommended. I got this when it came out in 1991 [iTunes states incorrectly that this came out in 1986]. Still one of my favorites after all these years.

not quite complete

Great album but it is missing "A Girl Like You" which is the reason I bought it when it came out in 91. Itunes strikes again.

Yay!

Lots of good stuff here. If you like that crossover between the dance floor and alternative you can't go wrong. "Birmingham" kicks it off well. "Mama..." was the hit. "Honey Tree" into "The Birdy Song" was the raver Romeo and Juliet. Fun sidetrips along the way. Have fun!
