Album Review
Despite a résumé that includes Young Guns II and Back to the Future III, Alan Silvestri may seem an eccentric choice to score Sam Raimi's spaghetti Western homage The Quick and the Dead, but the soundtrack proves a work of surprising mood and texture, forgoing the bombast of the composer's typical Hollywood efforts in favor of dark soundscapes that pay homage to the pioneering work of Ennio Morricone. To his credit, Silvestri delivers an old-fashioned Western score held together by whiskey, dirt, and blood, evoking the mythology of the Old West, not the reality. His innate gifts for fantasy and adventure serve him well here, with bold melodies that nicely complement the larger than life pulp-novel aspirations of Raimi's vision.
Customer Reviews
Worth the money
What a beautiful soundtrack; tracks 7,8 and 1 are brilliant
The Quick and the Dead
Excellent score. There is enough of a Morricone sound to please the spaghetti western lovers, while still allowing Silvestri's own style to shine. Hearing many of his cues from Predator took me of guard at first, but I quickly warmed to the contrasting mixes.
Excellent western bits with Silvestri's Predator like cues for the deep action; highly recommend to the fans of both musical tastes.
Spaghetti Western Fan
I love the Ennio Morricone sound to this score. I am a big fan of the Spaghetti Western and the classic gunslinger soundtrack. Worth the download if you like that sort of thing.
