Album Review
The Who's second album is a less impressive outing than their debut, primarily because, at the urging of their managers, all four members penned original material (though Pete Townshend wrote more than anyone else). The pure adrenaline of My Generation also subsided somewhat as the band began to grapple with more complex melodic and lyrical themes, especially on the erratic mini-opera "A Quick One While He's Away." Still, there's some great madness on Keith Moon's instrumental "Cobwebs and Strange," and Townshend delivered some solid mod pop with "Run Run Run" and "So Sad About Us." John Entwistle was also revealed to be a writer of considerable talent (and a morbid bent) on "Whiskey Man" and "Boris the Spider." [A special 150-gram vinyl edition of the album was released in 2006.]

I Love This Album
I am currently Pi**ed off because I just wrote a one page report like thing on this album and I didn't realize it had to be under 200 words (I'll do my best to summarize what I said). This album is the first ever album to have a rock opera. Originally when the album was made there were ten minutes of recording space left so producer Kit Lambert had the idea of a 10 minute song. Pete Townshend lead songwriter/guitarist thought that was ridiculous because it had never been done before. So he wrote 6 quick songs and fused them together into one mini opera named A Quick One While He's Away. This is the only album by The Who where all of the members of the band wrote a song. On the cover it says what they wrote. I am probably the biggest 15 year old Who fan in the world I own all of the albums and DVD/Videos their peak moment was from Tommy in 1969 to By Numbers in 1975. This is 1966 and excellent.
Good
Its a good album, but its not nearly as good as The Who Sellout. Its definitnly a change from My Generation, less of a hard rock feel, and you can definintly see the Who's style evolve. Heres a reveiw Run Run Run***-Its a good song Boris The Spider***-Song written by John, its got great lyrics, and its a good song as well. I need You***-Good Whiskey MAn**-another song by JOhn but not that great Heatwave***-pretty catchy Cobwebs and Strange***-an instrumental by Keith which is actually a pretty good number. Dont look away****-great song, one of the better numbers on the CD See My way***-Roger's song which ain't that bad So sad about us-***another pretty good A quick one*****-one of the greatest who songs ever. go to Youtube.com, they have 2 incredible live performances of this song. Batman**-cool addition to the album, fits in well, a fun listen, but musically its not that great. Bucket T**-aight Barbara Ann**-to similiar to the beach boys version...good song though disg
