The most luscious sounding e.p. of 2007
This is what I love about this genre of music-(whether u call it shoegaze or dreampop)-you lay down and itz as if you can fly into the darkness. The Robin Guthrie mixes are as good as getting a new Cocteau Twins e.p. Ulrich's work is the result of someone who truly loves his influences without blatantly ripping them off,.,he pays homage and throws his own spin on it...
You could have guessed...
Anything Ulrich makes, turns to gold. This EP is just another great addition to his impressive portfolio. His newest album 'Goodbye' is fantastic as well, which isn't on iTunes yet, but can be bought elsewhere. If you enjoyed any of his previous work, you should definately pick this EP up!
EXCELLENT TEASER
The problem with this EP is that it makes me even more anxious to hear his upcoming release. Ulrich Schnauss is probably the best ambient/shoegaze artist today. Its been a while since Strangely Isolated Place, so this is a very welcome new release, even though its just 4 songs. The two Schnauss tracks, are fantastic. However, we get to hear what I believe to be Schnauss' biggest influence (among countless other bands), Robine Guthrie re-work two of his classics. I believe this to be the highlight of the EP. Guthrie, the Godfather of Chill, does an incredible job of remixing these two songs in only the way he can. Guthrie is as good at his craft as he was fronting the Cocteau Twins in the 80's and 90's (you must also check out his solo stuff-incredible). "Quicksand Memory" is an excellent teaser to what I believe will be the release of the year, Schnauss' next CD, "Goodbye".
