iTunes Review

Boston’s Quilt is perfectly named. The band is both complicated and simple, homey and comforting, encircled by just enough raggedy fringe to keep things interesting and out of the blue-ribbon range of perfection. With jangling guitars, shimmery percussion, a Farfisa organ, and pillowy vocals, the group excels at organic freak-folkiness (“Cowboys in the Void,” “Children of Light," “Penobska Oakwalk“) and vintage, psychedelic ambling that's both charming and memorable, even when it changes shape and color (“Milo,” “Rabid Love”). Fans of Tim Cohen’s many alter egos (White Fences, Fresh and Onlys, etc.) will find Quilt right up their alley. Like those bands, this trio has a knack for poppy melodies that worm their way into your head and surface when you least expect them, due in large part to the beautiful, mantric, two- and three-part harmonies of Anna Fox Rochinski and Shane Butler. Quilt is the most transportive bowl of chicken soup you’ve ever had on a rainy day.

Amazing.

I had the pleasure of stumbling upon "cowboys in the void" about two weeks ago. It was one of the biggest music goosebump moments of my life.
An amazing, ethereal song on, from what I can tell so far, an amazing album.

Sweet album

Psychedelic folk - sort of a modern Mamas & the Papas. I dug, a lot.

Biography

Formed: Boston, MA

Genre: Singer/Songwriter

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Founding members and singer/guitarist/banjo players Shane Butler and Anna Rochinski met while attending the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and formed the band over a shared love of music, Butler coming from a spiritual background that included lots of musical chanting and Rochinski offering a background of classical choir singing.
