Heard this reviewed on N.P.R. while driving home. I had to pull over to listen. Truly amazing.
The best recording of this classic masterpiece
I was looking for a recording of this Vespers that had the clarity in the sopranos but also supported the vibrance in the bass because, lets face it, if you're listening to Russian music, you want to hear those lush low bass notes. This recording is the only one I found that has the balance just perfect. The sopranos float on top, altos and tenors shimmer beautifully to give the harmonic color, and the basses provide such a stable foundation for the entire ensemble! If you are going to buy a recording of this vespers, this is the one to get!!! This is my favorite vespers and this ensemble performs it so beautifully you'll get goosebumps just from the previews.
Breathtaking
I am a classical music fan, having heard a good portion of the "great" or well-known works, and this is one of--if not the--most beautiful and reverent things I have ever heard. I have no words to describe it further. I strongly recommend it--if you don't want to pay for this version, try the Duke University version, which is free.
