Out of this world!

Radio Silence, the inaugural release from the L.A. based band “When Planets Align” on Planet LA Records, is in a solid orbit around the earth. Though billed as an EP, this tasty collection of tunes has more of an album feel to it.

The title track “Radio Silence” is an engaging but brooding expose on hypocrisy and frustration that recalls the angst of a failed friendship. The single, “Hey Gwen” is a lively fountain of youth that recounts fond high school memories with a bouncy retro-80’s vibe. But it doesn’t stop there; the other songs are standout tracks in their own right. “Life’s Too Short” and “I Want You” are straight ahead fun rock-n-roll numbers that deal with pursuing dreams without capitulation. “General Santa Anna” possesses a totally different feel than the rest of the album. With its Spanish guitars and Flamenco flavor, it has a fire and rhythm all its own…ole! The EP closes by “saying goodbye” with the evocative “California Bride” with its notably touching intro.

All in all, Radio Silence is an enjoyable and entertaining EP with an audible variety of influences. “When Planets Align” may be local to Los Angeles, but their music will certainly not remain confined to local airspace. I know that we will be hearing more from this stellar new band, and we’ll surely be listening!

Great EP!

I've listened to the debut When Planets Align EP several times and I keep coming back to Life's Too Short, Radio Silence and General Santa Anna as stand out tracks for the complex instrumentation and lyrics. Hey Gwen! could easily be heard on the radio alongside the current hits of the day. I enjoy the slightly 80's vibe of the songs while at the same time they seem current, it's an interesting mix. Great debut album, I look forward to many more in the future!
