Pour your finest whiskey, or sit back in your favorite rocking chair...
And let Railyard make you a believer. Country western lives; it may be missing a tail from a close call or two, but it certainly lives on in these 6 gems. Railyard doesn't blur the lines like many contemporaries i.e. Wilco and Mumford And Sons. There's no nods to modern alternative, or indie movements, this is the pure, unadulterated, highest street value, country music. Dial back a few decades, before pop sensations rewrote the melody books with computers and autotune; before hipsters decided banjos were in. Country was about bass, pickin', and singing your guts out. Railyard captures this in a fresh easy to swallow production, free of the dust and scratches your grandaddy's records bare. Railyard is the iPod friendly, crystal clear, uncompromising doorway into the majestic world of country music done right.
With tunes this catchy, what else do you need on your iPod?
This album is like a smooth breath of fresh air after getting off of a day-long trip cramped up in a dilapidated South American bus through the Atacama desert (yes, that does come backed up with personal experience). I've had these tracks on repeat for the last few days and can't get enough. Each song is catchier than the last, and the harmonies and violin serenades will cling to your neurons and won't let go, much to our mutual chagrin.
Do yourself a favor and check these guys out. With tunes this catchy at just over 5 bucks, who needs to fill their iPod? These six tracks have been good enough for me lately.
American Music
To call this music country music would be a disservice given what else passes as country music. But if Woodie Gutherie or Hank Williams were alive to day, I think they'd enjoy Railyard. This music comes from Railyard's heart and it shows - no pretense here. But alot of artistry. Though there is something of the spirit of Woodie and Hank in this music, these songs come from modern hearts and minds and is not a parroting of their music. Folk, country, whatever you want to call it, it's great lyrics and pure vocalisations from 3 modern Americans.
