Wow...
Just wow. This CD is just outstanding. I'm not sure where to begin. Rainbow body is a brilliantly written piece that sounds very new and refreshing. The Suite from Appalachian Spring should be familiar to most classical music listeners and it is performed superbly. As for symphony No. 1, I never thought I'd find a better recording than the one I already had. Then I heard this. It absolutley raised my already high standards even higher for this piece of music. Theres so much music thrown into every line. Blue Cathedral is one of the most astounding emotionally uplifting pieces I have heard in a very long time. Every track on this CD is well worth the 10 dollars. I strongly encourage you to buy this album, you're missing out
The Barber piece alone is worth it...
The most noteworthy composition on this album is certainly Symphony No. 1 by Samuel Barber. This is an absolutely splendid recording of my second favorite piece by the aforementioned composer ('Music for a Scene from Shelly' being the first). As with most of the other Telarc recordings, the brass and percussion are accentuated perfectly. However, they do not drown out the strings, which play a pivotal emotional role in the slower portions of the piece. This all goes without saying the other pieces are fabulous recordings as well and this album is highly recommended.
A simple review
My young daughter and I heard Rainbow Body preformed live during a school trip to see the orchestra and I/we so enjoyed the excerpt that was played that I knew I had to buy the complete work.
