iTunes Review

The 2010 “Rarities Edition” of Street Songs features all the “bonus” material from the “Deluxe Edition” of the album and nothing from the original album. This edition, therefore, is intended for people who already own the original release and do not wish to purchase it yet again but would like the live material and the 12” remixes not included on the original album. Street Songs is considered one of the definitive R&B-Funk albums of the ‘80s. “Give It to Me Baby” and “Super Freak” were the hit singles and they appear here in live, instrumental and extended remix forms. The live concert from the Long Beach Arena includes material from his various albums, two collaborations with Teena Marie (“I’m a Sucker For Your Love” and “Square Biz”) and enough audience participation and stage repartee to make this one riveting performance. James was in the prime of his career and his performance skills were at their peak. Here rests the evidence.
