iTunes Review

With album number two, Queens of the Stone Age opened up their sound to include the psychedelic desert heat surrounding them. The heaviness still comes grinding out of “Quick and to the Pointless.” But the inclusion of Screaming Trees singer Mark Lanegan adds a bluesy soulfulness to the grooves and the fuzztones and expanded arrangements make for a band going far beyond the stoner rock roots of Kyuss. This 2010 “Deluxe Edition” includes a ton of bonus material. The live tracks from the 2000 Reading Festival prove what a knockout live band could pull off, as tracks such as “Ode to Clarissa” (a b-side also included here in its studio version), “Better Living Through Chemistry” and “The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret” never sounded more demanding. The b-sides and outtakes get pretty wild, too. Romeo Void’s “Never Say Never” and the Kinks’ “Who’ll Be The Next In Line” are not so much covers but reinventions. “You Can’t Quit Me, Baby” is the sound of the boogieing apocalypse coming to an iPod near you.

if you like your rock quirky with an edge

If you've never heard a song by Queens of the Stone Age, then it's hard to describe. But the riffs and heavy sound make them distinctively QotSA, and Rated R is one of their quintessential best albums. The songs range heavily in tempo, often meant to be listened to on LOUD with the car windows rolled down. Give "The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret" a try, should you like it then keep going.

Awesome!!!

I have been listening to QOTSA for quite some time and R has to be one of their best albums, even though they are all great. I haven't listened to the 4 bonus tracks yet, but I'm sure they are awesome. Everything this band and almost anything Josh Homme does is excellent. Buy this album and you won't regret it. If you have listened to Songs for the Deaf already and love it definately get this. If you just love good ole' rock'n roll get this. If you like music at all get this!!! Can't wait for a new full length album from these guys, THEY ROCK!!!!

QOTSA rocks faces for breakfast.

Rated R is a strong album, and the Deluxe Edition bonus material is fantastic!

This seems to be the only place to find the studio cuts of "Ode to Clarissa" and "You're So Vague."

"Born to Hula" was on the Kyuss/QOTSA split EP, released 1997, and an alternate version was released on the b-side EP "Stone Age Complications" in 2004. "Who'll Be the Next In Line" was also on "Complications."

"Never Say Never" was on the soundtrack to the 2004 film "The Punisher" starring Thomas Jane and John Travolta.

This is good, rare stuff!

Git it git it!
