Album Review
Paul Reddick and company dig into the pre-World War II rural blues repertoire. They come up with Delta gems for their tough, electric blues sound. They use studio effects and unexpected equipment to achieve raw, analog visitations of the past blues masters on almost every track. Colin Linden produced and adds signature guitar to this exquisite example of visceral urban blues with clear juke joint roots featuring Reddick's harmonica.

One of the Great Unsung Blues Heroes
Paul Reddick is nothing less than one of the great unsung heroes of the modern blues scene. Beyond having vocal and harmonica talent to spare, he is a great performer. I saw them live at the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival in 2001. The festival opened Sept. 12, 2001 (Take that Osama!). Needless to say, many of the headliners from the United States could not make it as a result of the grounded airlines on 9/11. These guys crowded themselves and their equipment into a rental and drove 16 hours from Toronto to make their schedule sets. In addition to their scheduled sets, they formed a bunch of super groups with the other artists that showed up to make up for the headliners that couldn't make it. On top of that, they still hung around the late night jam until 4 in the morning. Instead of tiring, every set seemed more energized than the one before it. Rattlebag is a fantastic re-interpetion of pre-WWII blues. "I'm a Criminal", the subject of Coca-Cola commercial, is a standout track.
Caught by surprise!!!
I found this album and artist through the thing where iTunes looks at what music you have and shows you stuff you might like, I am not usually a blues fan but I took a chance on this and Criminal and Dreamin' Dreamin' have made it on my playlists, and pretty close to the top!!!
Astounding!
This is some of the best modern blues I have heard. It has a great Texas blues vibe with solid harp and vocals with a tight rhythm section. Why have we not heard more about this guy and his band. Best $9.99 I've spent on iTunes in a while!
