Fantastic Clean Accurate Music Extraordinaire
Bolero was written to commence pianissimo and gradually transition to fortissimo, this recording does exactly that.... I find this piece and the other pieces impeccably performed and recorded. You will not regret this purchase. I originally wanted just Bolero and am happy that I ended up with the entire album, each piece is fabulous, some more than others. Listen to the entire album in sequence, enjoy!
Bolero
I purchased this CD for the combination of Pictures at an Exhibition and the Bolero. The audio of the Bolero is almost discernable and needs to be releveled. I reported the problem and was given a credit and told to try and redownload in a few weeks. I'll repost if I notice they've fixed the problem.
Unbelievable! I can't believe this is von Karajan
I have never heard a recording approaching anything this bad. My semi-professional orchestra wouldn't have allowed this to be published. The orchestra is out of tune in all three pieces. The trumpet in Pictures at an Exhibition is so far off it makes the first ten bars of it unbearable! The timing is all over the place, which is bad enough in Debussy, but positively ruins Ravel's Bolero, which is painful, and turns Pictures at an Exhibition into a complete train wreck. I immediately jumped at this when I saw it was a recording of von Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic doing three of my favorites. This recording is a travesty. Even the audio quality is awful.
Do yourself a favor, don't buy this recording. I truly don't believe this is a recording of von Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic, unless they had just been on a massive bender and didn't know someone was recording.
