iTunes Review

Iggy & The Stooges’ third album, Raw Power, saw an important revamp in the band’s lineup as James Williamson took over the guitar duties, sending Ron Asheton over to bass guitar and turning the sound into vicious whirlwind of nasty solos and demented blues. Iggy Pop is at his most stressed out as he pleads through “I Need Somebody” and “Death Trip.” “Search and Destroy” has become a national anthem for punk rock and the mix has been restored to David Bowie’s original 1973 version with updated mastering. (Iggy’s 2007 remix remains available in the Original Album Classics Series.) This Legacy Edition contains two previously unreleased studio outtakes, “Doojiman” and a rehearsal of “Head On,” both essential for Iggy completists. But the real jewel here is the unreleased live performance from Richards in Atlanta, GA from October 1973 where the band slam through “Raw Power,” “Search and Destroy,” “Gimme Danger” and the more obscure “Open Up and Bleed,” “C**k in My Pocket” and “Heavy Liquid.” It’s no exaggeration to call this album one of the most influential of its time, even if it took most people nearly a decade to catch up.

One of the Greatest Albums of All Time

If aliens land here and they need to understand what rock n roll is, this is what should be played. Raw Power is an absolute classic, truly one of the best albums ever committed to vinyl - it is a timeless, visceral, piece of gutter art. It could only have come from DETROIT...if you don't have it, buy it now!

Watered down power?

After listening to much debate from both camps, I finally opted for the non Bowie version. Sure you can hear every note clearly thanks to Bowie, but this version lacks the rebellion, fuzz, the Raw, the Power of the original. It's my belief that punk should not be "tidy". Sorry to offend any die hard Bowie mix fans, but I thought anybody reading these reviews should hear at least one voice of opposition. Take a listen to both, choose based on your preference. Either way, it's a GREAT album.

Bowie Mix!!!!!!

This is the Bowie Mix! Which is way better than that thrash Iggy mixed.

Formed: 1967 in Ann Arbor, MI

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '60s, '70s, '00s, '10s

During the psychedelic haze of the late '60s, the grimy, noisy and relentlessly bleak rock & roll of the Stooges was conspicuously out of time. Like the Velvet Underground, the Stooges revealed the underside of sex, drugs, and rock & roll, showing all of the grime beneath the myth. The Stooges, however, weren't nearly as cerebral as the Velvets. Taking their cue from the over-amplified pounding of British blues, the primal raunch of American garage rock, and the psychedelic rock (as well...
