Customer Reviews
People, cmon...
Steven Curtis Chapman has been a large part of my musical history for the past 15 years, and really no matter what he does, I'll buy it.
However, people who are reviewing this album seem to be giving Chapman a hard time because he "can't rock out" anymore, or "midi strings and acoustic renditions are stale". To these people, I would like to remind them of a few things.
First, Chapman is known for his incredible ability to keep up with the times. His 90's cd's sound very 90's whereas his 2000's cd's sound very 2000's. This cd proves that he still has this ability.
Secondly, just because he doesn't "rock out" quite as much on this album doesn't mean he can't. Go see him live.
Thirdly, I will agree that songs like "Dive" and "Speechless" are absolutely amazing songs that will forever be remembered for their original versions, but the artistry it takes to remake songs like that into songs that are a) still incredibly intricate in their composition and (b) still keep up with the times says a lot about Chapman and what kind of musician he is. "Dive" has hints of Jonsi in it with the really fast flutes! WHAT?! Jonsi?! That's so cool.
Fourth, if you read the description, you'll notice that these songs have taken on new meaning for him. Let them take on new meaning for you too. I love the originals just as much as the next guy, but i REALLY respect him for rerecording hits rather than just releasing a greatest hits.
I love this album Steven, and I hope you rerecord ALL of your songs because lets face it, if I don't like a rerecorded track, I'll always have the original!
Extremely Nostalgic
The first CD I ever got was when I was in second grade... It was SCC's Speechless. I fell in love with the music and lyrics. I'm going to be a senior this year and I know almost every song Steven has written by heart... He has inspired me to sing and learn many instruments. I play bass, drums, guitar and sing at my church and I write my own music and lyrics in hopes that I will someday be like Steven Curtis Chapman.
Thank you for filling my childhood with your music and starting my life with hope. Hope I get to meet you someday.

Glad to see SCC is still singing, but this album really falls short
Long time fan of SCC and glad he's still dedicated to pouring out his heart and work into the ministry. This album, however, seems so very stale, over produced and rushed like a "filler" needed by the label and his contract.
"Do everything" is a standard SCC type sounding song that will carry this CD through some sales, however the re:creation songs are merely regurgitated CCM mess. The constant tempo-clipping percussion and synth strings just do not recreate a song. The overall sound lacks vision and some songs should never be remade. It's one thing to re:create something and another to run out of material, and this sounds like the latter.
