iTunes Review

Most classic rock fans should be pretty familiar with the tunes featured here on this album of covers, but new fans are in for some surprises. The alt-metal band takes a scaled back approach here, preferring to remain true to the songs’ original style and intent rather than goosing them up with a metal overlay. So, the Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter” keeps its original anthem power. Neil Young’s “Old Man” is given just a jolt of electricity. AC/DC’s “T.N.T.” only adds a vague hard-rock boogie to the power-chord madness. Led Zeppelin’s reggae “D’yer Mak’er” is done with authority. Billy Squier’s “Everybody Wants You” is reborn with extra sass in the vocal. Singer Wesley Scantlin handles himself well. He can be Steve Miller for “The Joker” or Paul Rodgers of Free for “All Right Now.” The Beatles’ “With a Little Help From My Friends” is done like the Joe Cocker version. J.J. Cale’s “Cocaine” is given a hard-rock treatment a few steps heavier than the infamous Eric Clapton cover.

meh

You know whats better than this? The original artists.

WHO

in their right minds let this band anywhere near Led Zeppelin? It should be illegal for something this awful to exist.

1st Review!!!!

I have been waiting for this covers album to come out for a couple months now, and it was definitely worth the wait. I love POM and everything they have done/will do in the future. This album does not disappoint! What I like what they do is to stay true to the original songs, while putting their own spin on it. They don't drastically change up the songs at all, if anything, they make it sound more modern and clean. Some of my personal favorites from this collection would be: Gimme Shelter (best on the album), With a Little Help from My Friends, Rocket Man, Stop Draggin My Heart Around, and The Joker... but al the songs on here are really great. If you dig cover albums, this is definitely worth the $9.99. Not any bands can pull off cover albums, but I am glad to say that Puddle of Mudd do it well, and stay faithful to the originals. And whoever they got to do the female vocals is amazing!!! Highly recommended buy for all true POM fans.

One of the first acts signed to Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst's label, Flawless Records, was the alt-metal quartet Puddle of Mudd — consisting of Wesley Scantlin (guitar and vocals), Paul Phillips (guitar), Douglas Ardito (bass), and Greg Upchurch (drums). While their songs expectedly contain the rage of such contemporaries as Korn and Rage Against the Machine, Scantlin's voice at times is eerily similar to Nirvana's late, great frontman, Kurt Cobain, containing unmistakable elements of traditional...
