My new favorite J-rockers!
The only thing keeping me from giving this a five star is that fact that I never give things five stars. These guys have a very unique sound. The rock isn't really unique. The metal isn't really unique. But the way they can put that all together with such great lyrics and a very powerful vocalist, is what sets them apart. Every song is a masterpiece, and the price is just right for this EP. If you're a J-rock otaku like me, this is one EP you won't want to miss out on.
Awesome ^_^
5 Stars, Girugamesh never fails to impress. I'm glad that this album is available on US iTunes this way I am able to support such an amazing band in both the US and in their native Japan. Girugamesh to put it simply rocks hard. This mini-album is a great follow up to 13's Reborn.
Reason of Crying: Girugamesh at Top Form
Despite recording and releasing a full-blown self-titled album since its creation, Reason of Crying remains, in my opinion, the most fully realized Girugamesh recording yet. While the band's other two albums are under-produced and raw sounding, this EP is aided by incredible production that only serves to enhance the raw power of the band, while simultaneously allowing them to reach levels of musical tightness that are unattained on their other releases. The drums and vocals, in particular, are spot on; dangerously aggressive and always emotionally provocative. The songwriting, as well, is flawless on this EP. Whereas the latest Girugamesh album suffers from a lack of variety in chords and choruses, Reason of Crying is diverse, with no similar sounding songs. The track order is excellent; the EP plays very pleasantly and builds in a cinematic way. Real My Place and Crime are Girugamesh at their best; incessantly catchy yet bone-crushingly heavy. Smash!! lives up to its name, hitting listeners in the sternum with full force. Melody is catchy yet elegant, Freesia is simply beautiful. The contrasting heaviness and dark beauty found in Girugamesh's best work sends the songs soaring, and these are no exceptions, of course. Overall, once more, I find this to be an incredible EP, and much more rewarding than the latest Girugamesh album. The short length of Reason of Crying only serves as incentive to listen to it repeatedly; there's really nothing much at all to fault on this release. I highly recommend it to fans of such bands as D'espairsRay and MUCC, as well as fans of heavier western music. Girugamesh may indeed be the most western sounding J-rock group I have yet to hear, which should help them reach an incredibly wide audience. Time will tell. Let's hope they release more material of this quality in the future!
