Album Review

A slick, carefully crafted follow-up to his debut, Rebel Yell was Billy Idol's catchiest, most consistent fusion of synth-driven new wave pop and hard rock guitar pyrotechnics (courtesy of Steve Stevens). The eerie ballad "Eyes Without a Face" gave Idol his first U.S. Top Ten hit, while "Flesh for Fantasy" and the title track became MTV staples. Like much of Idol's solo output, it's all calculated for maximum appeal, but Rebel Yell also works too well not to be an infectiously guilty pleasure.

Rebel Yell is as close to perfect as it gets...

The keyboards and high-end guitar start the lift off and the drums, bass and fury kicks in moments later...It's REBEL YELL, Billy Idol's second full solo album. And it's FANTASTIC! From the title song, Rebel Yell all the way to Dead Next Door, Idol's masterpiece leaves you amped, ready and wanting More, More, More... Keith Forsey produced this record, locking into the sound that defined a Idol/Stevens, cemented a place in rock history, and kicked down the walls between genres. And, talk about the HITS!!! "Flesh for Fantasy", "Eyes without a Face", and "Catch My Fall" reveal depth, a moodiness, and seductive ark; while "Blue Highway", "Rebel Yell", and "(Do Not) Stand in the Shadows" drive with fist pumping hunger. Even the under-rated "Daytime Drama", and "Crank Call" offer melodic grooves. Rebel Yell owns untouchable Steve Stevens guitar heroics, biting lyrics, that thumping rhythm that rattles you all the way to your core, and captures the essence and movement of not only the 80's, but timeless music as a whole. Furthermore, the eerie "The Dead Next Door" offers a glimpse at a not so unrealistic future. To top it off, this "Extended Edition" of Rebel Yell has a grab bag of extra goodies and an Idol show favorite, "Motorbikin". This is a must own record for anyones collection. Don't miss out on a masterpiece. Get REBEL YELL TODAY!!!

I heard Rebel Yell in a DirecTV commercial, and I love the part when that one guys just like, "I'd sell my soul." when his wife asks him to put his offspring in the car and she's just all like, "You don't have to do that, honey." It's freakin' hilarious!
