Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet reunited as Yaz in 2008 for a tour of Europe and North America, recording the tracks that comprise this live album. The band’s romantic synth-pop, with unusually deep R&B roots, gave the group several hits, including their debut single, “Only You” and “Situation.” Both are here in spirited versions that show that the joy of music-making overcomes all. Clarke’s synths are updated with warmer tones and Moyet’s vocals are deeper and more powerful. Age and wisdom lend credence to the heartbreak behind the band’s best tunes. “Don’t Go” is exuberant. “Winter Kills” is foreboding. “Sweet Thing” is chilling, even if its modernist sound is now a thing of nostalgia. (It’s also a touchstone for many modern indie-rock bands, so go figure.) “State Farm” adds Moyet’s “rap” that leads to cheers from the crowd and giggles from Moyet. “Bad Connection” is so sweet and endearing. “Ode to a Boy” is so deliciously creepy.  They’ve only gotten better with time.

Excellent!

Alison's voice has only gotten better and Vince's "less is more" approach to re-programming these songs only buoyed the sounds and spirits of these two amazing artists - the crowd sounds like they appreciated that as well! What a wonderful treat for longtime Yazoo fans such as myself. this is a MUST HAVE for fans of Alison, Vince, Erasure, Depeche Mode, etc. This musical concept was way ahead of its time. Pair a wonderful bluesy singer with a synth wizard and the end product is spectacular. Thanks to Alison and Vince for making the smart choice to reconvene and give these tunes a well-deserved "re-birth" after 25 years...wow!

Reconnected in all the best ways music can be!

I saw their first USA show at the Paramount in Oakland, CA on July 7. This live recording is just as stellar as that night. It captures the heart, soul, and cutting edge feeling that they exude so well. Bravo!

Get Set

This is an amazing document of the tour I never thought would happen. I was lucky enough to catch them in NYC on the 2008 Reconnected Tour. The combination of Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet was something that has never been recreated. Although Andy Bell of Erasure is an amazing singer, he just doesn't quite have the soul voice that Alison Moyet brought to Yazoo (Yaz in America). The real reason to buy this from iTunes is the bonus track. "Get Set" has finally be released from the vaults and now my Yazoo collection is truly complete.

Comprised of synthesizer player Vince Clarke and singer Alison Moyet, the group formed in 1981, after Clarke left Depeche Mode (Clarke had penned almost all of Depeche Mode's debut album, Speak & Spell, including their early dancefloor hit "I Just Can't Get Enough") and Moyet had recently exited an obscure R&B cover band, the Screaming Abdabs.
