iTunes Review

Ann Wilson is one of hard rock’s most powerful lead vocalists. Heart slicked up their sound in the 1980s, but they’ve spent the ensuing decades trying to strip it back down to the ‘70s roots. 2010’s Red Velvet Car is one powerful Heart album. The Led Zeppelin “Achilles’ Last Stand” rumble of “Wheels” is tense and desperate. “Saffronia’s Mark” enjoins the folk entrails of Zeppelin’s third album with the vibe of the group’s own Dreamboat Annie where the acoustic guitars eventually give way to electric guitars headed towards the heavens. Sister Nancy Wilson pumps out serious riffs and acoustic webs, but it’s her tone that’s completely killer. There’s an unexpected rawness to “WTF” that sends the group near the garage-rock border. “Sunflower” is as sensual and seductive as Chrissie Hynde at her most prowling. “Sand” proves that even their quieter moments can deliver real passion. This is a fantastic new chapter for a band that has been putting in their time for over four decades.

Customer Reviews

Heart rocks with style but they are showing age.

Got to give Ann and Nancy Wilson for always playing their hearts out in everything they've ever produced and this album is no exception. The album offers a good variety of sounds that touch upon a lot of the bands previous songs but they are all very new and fresh sounding as well, not recycled or reused just kind of lightly brushed upon by their musical lineage. We live in a era of quick, simplistic throw-away pop, rock and rap which is a shame as there was a time when a album like this could really find a audience. That sadly is not very likely to happen as it is nearly impossible for a brilliant work like this to get any public attention even when from one of the most talented and respected rock bands of all times.

My favorite song is Wheels, I can put that on and just fall right back into the same feeling Heart has always provided with their music. I hope they keep on producing music this good for years. My hopes are always for a true rock renaissance and a return to the days when sitting down to listen to a album was a experience worth remembering and savoring and not just clicking something on in the car while you commute to work. If you feel at all like I just described here, you will love this album.

BACK!!?? They never left!!!

I have memories of driving too fast on middle-of-nowhere roads playing "Barracuda", "Dog & Butterfly" and all the 80's Heart power ballads, and I will drive those same roads again playing "Red Velvet Car". The voices of both the Wilson sisters are unmistakeable, and put to shame the pop princess single octave pretenders that jam the airwaves. "Wheels", "WTF", "Death Valley", & "Red Velvet Car" couldn't be sung by any other band. Enjoy the ride!

Brilliant

The Wilson sister's are BACK. This album is full of passion, songwriting and craft - no fancy production techniques just soulful vocals and amazing instrumentation. Get it now. Play it Loud.

Sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson are the creative spark behind Heart, a hard rock group who initially found success in the mid-'70s, only to reach greater heights after engineering a major comeback a decade later. The daughters of a Marine Corps captain, Ann (born June 19, 1950) and Nancy (born March 16, 1954) grew up in both Southern California and Taiwan before the Wilson family settled in Seattle, WA. Throughout their formative years, both were interested in folk and pop music; while Ann never took...
