iTunes Review

Redemption at the Puritan’s Hand is a refreshingly original addition to the black metal canon by breaking from the genre’s blueprint. “No Grave Deep Enough” opens the Irish quartet’s seventh album by harkening back to pagan roots. The lyrics——which frontman A.A. Nemtheanga delivers with throaty growls and more traditional, druid-like chanting—are steeped in the lore of Celtic polytheism. “Lain at the Wolf” boasts galloping, adventure-rock rhythms under winding guitars that resonate like war sirens while Nemtheanga wails a fantastical narrative. The introductory guitars of “Bloodied yet Unbowed” chime and ring with folk-metal tones before blasting into a distorted dirge as Nemtheanga pleads for immortality, howling like a young James Hetfield. At six minutes and 19 seconds, “The Black Hundred” is the shortest song here, but it's easily the most powerful in its relentless attack and impassioned performance.

Pure Brilliance

Primordial is one of a kind. Their unique blend of Celtic folk and Black Metal, if you can even call it Black Metal, is fantastic. Here, with their latest offering, Primordial create an atmosphere different than their other records. Upon repeated listens, I can say it does not quite reach the astounding heights of their previous record, To The Nameless Dead, which is not a surprise, as that record was a complete masterpiece. This record though is deeper, and as Primordial has stated, is their "Death album." You can feel the emotions around every turn. I won't do a track by track, but I will say that The Mouth of Judas has to be their greatest song. It even, in my mind, surpasses The Coffin Ships from The Gathering Wilderness, which is an amazing feat. Purchase this album; listen to it any way you can. Fans of metal rejoice, Primordial is back!

Awesome Extreme Doom Metal

Just discovered Primordial recently and couldn't wait for this release. Very dark, powerful Doom Metal with a hint of Celtic Folk Metal mixed in. I agree that "The Mouth of Judas" is the best track on this album, but all 8 tracks are quality.
