Album Review

With the title to his 2011 release, rapper Lecrae stretches his “the Christian life is an entrance into rehab" metaphor till it breaks, so think of Rehab: The Overdose as Rehab: The Addendum or Rehab: The Leftovers. Don’t take the latter as an insult, either, because this is a high-quality set of tracks, just ones that didn’t make it on his 2010 album Rehab. Expect the same intense worship and wordplay, but this time with fewer guests, a little less polish, and rough transitions from track to track. Of course, Lecrae’s rabid fan base can’t right click fast enough when a track leaks, and this set gives them the opportunity to hear their favorite wordsmith in more casual surroundings, and offers proof that the magic doesn’t happen in post-production. Not the place to start, but recommended for anyone who devoured the Grammy-nominated Rehab.

Not his best

Through popular demand, this will prob get a 5/5 90 percent of the time..but for someone like me who has been a lecrae fan since 2004 when he released real talk, you will understand when i say this is not his best work lyrically..now i must give lecrae credit, i know he was going for more of the mainstream sound, so its understandeable, but why take away the realness in your lyrics..i can still grow from these lyrics, but rebel is still your best album, and i dont know if you will ever go back to that way of rapping...but all in all, i gave it a 4/5, because i do like this project, and i will def. be bumping it..i am just dissapointed that lecrae isnt the way he used to be..thumbs this up, if you agree, becuz im sure lecrae will see our comments, so if this becomes first comment..he will def. see it.and maybe he may try to go back to the good ole days....im still a fan, love your music, but this is not my fav by you.

It earned 5 stars

It is hard to judge an album you have barely heard for just over an hour. But the music, lyrics, and the project is amazing. For those that are saying the lyrics are not as good as they use to be, I'm truly shocked at that. Crayola came even harder than on Rehab on this one and just as good on Rebel. Touching base on such things like a woman finding security in God instead of man, is that not being real and upfront? Truly amazing Album!! I do not give 5 stars for just anyone. But that is my unprofessional opinion.

Overdose on Jesus

Great addition to Rehab! Love "Chase That" and "Blow Your High"

Biography

Born: Houston, TX

Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap

Years Active: '00s, '10s

For the typical music fan, Lecrae's hard demeanor and crunk beats might belie what his lyrics are really about, his adoration of Jesus Christ. The main tenet influencing his mission and music is taken from Romans 1:16 of the Bible, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel." Although he was born on Houston's south side, Lecrae grew up in Denver, CO, and San Diego, CA. It was at the age of 19 that he decided to give his life to Christ. Using conventional methods to spread the Gospel, he has worked for ministerial...
