2 black metal albums in 1 day!

Coincidentally they're the only 2 black metal bands I can usually enjoy:dimmu borgir and equilibrium. This is a good album, that doesn't quite top Sagas but comes close. It also ends with an epic 13 minute instrumental (3 minutes shorter than their last instrumental)

Not better than Sagas...

This band is one of my favorites in the entire world! I just couldn't wait to get my hands on this album! And it is great... For the most part... For this new album seems to lack the outstanding epic awesomeness that Sagas feasted upon our ears. Also, the new singer is quite fine... But he too lacks the growls and roars that Helge Stang had. Over all I give this album a 4 out of 5 stars... Simply because it will never be as good as Sagas.

Folk Metal at it's Finest

Equilibrium had a line-up change right before this album was recorded. Was it a good move? Let's wait one more album to decide that. The acquisition of both a new lead singer and drummer could potentially lead to drastically different sound. Did this happen? Yes and no.
In terms of symphonics, the band used less horns and flutes and reverted to heavier usage of dark and foreboding symphonic keys as seen in Verbrannte Erde. We also see many returning characteristics like the upbeat "happy" melodies that were found in Sagas as well as some songs from Turis Fratyr. "Der ewige Sieg" or the Eternal Victory is about triumphing above the rest, and the rhythm of the song in combination with Robert Dahn's fierce growls and Tuval Refäli's epic drum beats make for an excellent song.
As for the rest of the album, all the songs are enjoyable and fun. "Aus Ferner Zeit" has a lively and catchy chorus and "Kurzes Epos" as an instrumental fits well with the feel of the album. While all together it is less folksy than Sagas and Turis Fratyr, it retains a unique sound and the new members will allow Equilibrium to grow.

Biography

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '00s

Originally formed in 2001 with the intention of playing just one show, Germany's Equilibrium quickly changed their minds and, over time, joined scores of new millennium heavy metal bands (Windir, Turisas, Negura Bunget, Eluveitie, etc.) devoted to penning songs steeped in the cultural traditions, legends, and folklore of their homeland. In Equilibrium's case, this happens to be the historically significant state of Bavaria — home to the Black Forest, the Brothers Grimm, Oktoberfest...in short,...
