Album Review

Chuck Wild may be one of the few composers in the world who would take it as a compliment if he were told his music puts people to sleep. The veteran film/TV composer and pop songwriter (whose credits include cuts by the Pointer Sisters, Jennifer Rush, and Philip Bailey) is the architect behind the Liquid Mind sonic ambience concept. From the time he created his first disc, Ambience Minimus, in the mid-'80s, he's created albums around the themes of things like Balance, Unity, Spirit, and Serenity that all live up to his trademarked philosophy of Musical Healthcare. Wild originally wrote this type of music to reduce the stress of his heavy workload and to cope with the loss of many friends and family members to cancer and AIDS; in creating these lush but simple "compositions" (which truly make the listener feel a floating sensation as the heart rate lowers), he's given hope and healing to thousands. Relax, whose title states its intention, is a gathering of eight tracks from these previous collections whose titles help create a slumbering theme: "Serenity," "Touching Calm," "Lullaby for Grownups," etc. There's not much variety or movement from track to track but the point is that, like Wild, you won't need any pills to get to sleep.

A compilation plus one new song

"Relax" is intended as a sampler of full-length tracks for those who have never experienced the Liquid Mind music. Great as a gift for someone who needs some "chill music"! This title is a collection of previously released material containing what Chuck describes on his website as some of his "favorite tracks from earlier albums, plus one new piece." The new track is "I Am Willing" and is available on it's own for $.99. It is classic Liquid Mind, so no worries about it sounding out of step with the previous soundscapes. If you own the other Liquid Mind CDs, though, I encourage you to get the single. The music that Chuck Wild creates is amazing in its ability to help you synch to calmer state of mind. My yoga teacher uses many of his CDs in class, and I have put them on before I go to bed as well. Very restful, unobtrusive. I rated it 4 stars because it is a really good matched compilation of the previous Liquid Mind titles. One last hmmm: 11 September release date?

Buy It! No questions asked!!

I love it! love it, love it, love it!!! I'm a hard core hip-hop/rap fan and this brings out my other side of me that I've always looked for. I'm a fanatic to certain video game music and I haven't been able to find what i'm looking for other than through the game website and I'm unable to download them. Fans of "The Legend of Zelda" and "Tomb Raider" know what I'm talking about. To any deep thinker out there or just someone that wants to get taken into a whole different world of relaxation, buy this album baby!! To the producer of this music... Fascinating! You are extremely talented and to itunes thank you for having what i've been looking for!!!!

"A Spiritual Asylum for Troubled Thoughts"

This music is a balm, for whatever perpetuates, a troubled restlessness within the human condition. It evokes feelings of euphoric peace and timelessness, and a sense of universal connectivity to all creation. I believe that all ambient, and new age fans should own at least one "Liquid Mind" album. This one, "Relax" would be an excellent place to start your journey. Chuck Wild's efforts should be considered as "musical jacuzzis" for any conscious intellect needing pampered shelter, and primal rejuvenation. If you favor artists like Vangelis, Constance Demby, 2002, Ariell and David Sun, then you will be reasonable pleased. I found this album, to also be, quite somber at times. Very much in the same vein as Samuel Barber's "Adaggio for Strings"; as interpreted electronically, by William Orbit. It also projects the same "majesty" as Clifford White's "Gods of Olympus" recording. But do draw your own conclusions.
