Album Review

Reloaded differs from the slew of Tom Jones compilations available by including songs from his later career, a time he was messing about with contemporary pop artists. The fact that 1999's pop guest star-filled Reload failed to raise an eyebrow in America is a marketing faux pas of monolithic proportions, since it was so ultra-fantastic and ultra-fun. A good portion of it shows up here, and it makes for a whiplash-inducing listen when going from the jaunty chestnut "It's Not Unusual" into the so-2000 dance thump of "Sexbomb." Buy it for Grandma and she might be asking about guest stars the Art of Noise, Portishead, or the Stereophonics. All the pop guests work well with the swaggering one, and it's a relief to laugh with him rather than at him. A glance at the track list will tell you that most of required standards are here, but one wishes they would have included the great "Detroit City" to show his more soulful side. Avoid it if you don't want the later years when the innuendo and volume were turned up a tad, but it's the best way to get a quick overview of his hedonistic sly wink of a career.

A swinging must for the bachelor pad

Gone are the days when Tom Jones was considered a corny idol of your Mom's, we are now in an era where Tom Jones, the man's man, is considered a classic. Reloaded is the best Tom Jones album since 1994's 'The Lead and How to Swing It' filled with new renditions of classic songs coupled with a career retrospective sampling of his greatest hits (including the pulse-pounding 'If I Only Knew'). Covers of 'Black Betty' and 'Burning Down the House' show Jones in fine form but the real stand-outs of this CD are the covers of 'Mama Told Me Not to Come' and 'Baby it's Cold Outside.' Buy it for your mother at your own risk, you're going to want to keep this one on your iPod too.

Sir Tom Jones is THE MAN!!!

This album has everything! His standards from yesteryear and his most recent material which is absolutely kickbutt! I saw him perform recently in NYC and he is unbelievable - panties were flying! Definitely not for grandma any more. This man has moved with the times in the most positive and refreshing way. A must have for old and new fans.

Hefty Tom Tom

Tom Jones became one of the most popular vocalists to emerge from the British Invasion. Since the mid-'60s, Jones has sung nearly every form of popular music — pop, rock, show tunes, country, dance, and techno, he's sung it all. His actual style — a full-throated, robust baritone that had little regard for nuance and subtlety — never changed, he just sang over different backing tracks. On-stage, Jones played up his sexual appeal; it didn't matter whether he was in an unbuttoned...
