A Trailblazer

I'm stunned that I finally have a CD by Korla Pandit. This man was a trailblazer in so many regards. He was the first to introduce lounge and ethnic music in a medium that we can all understand. So many of us that came after him in genres of new age, world and lounge owe a debt of gratitude to Korla for making this music so accessable. Korla was one of a kind and clearly one of the most underrated artists of our time. I lift my glass in a cheer for the incomparable Korla Bandit. God bless you.

One of exotica's most exotic figures, Korla Pandit was a celebrity of sorts in the 1950s via a Southern California television show (also syndicated to other parts of the country) that featured his organ playing. Wearing a turban and never speaking, Pandit simply performed on a Hammond B-3 organ while staring into the camera, embellishing his riffs with touches of the Far East and (to a much lesser degree) Latin music.
