Haunting past/haunting present

Great album. I’ve been listening to it daily since buying it on iTunes. Murcof pretty deftly plays between modern electronica and classical instrumentation. The way he uses pieces of organ (at least I think it’s organ) makes you realize how that instrument can morph from contemporary to traditional and back again. Perfect tool for his theme, but he uses it pretty judiciously. This, among other things, creates a kind of disorientation in the sense of time and place, which really drives the dark and ambiguous ambience of the album. Just when you think you’re oriented in an earlier time, he jars you back with unmistakably modern, synthetic themes. It’s like bouncing back and forth between past and present anguish, never finding refuge for long. Great, emotionally rich, stuff. My vote goes to “Rostro” as the most powerful track. A close listen can be pretty devastating.

exceptionally textured, haunting, satisfying

This is an incredible listen. I have been creating a new set of imaginary visuals go to along with it each time. I love the textures, the layering... basically everything. The playfulness with rhythm at times is especially satisfying. Recuerdos is probably my favorite in that it is a sneaky sort of progression that you can see coming but by the end forgot where you started.
