Album Review

Perhaps to prepare fans for their next release (produced by Smashing Pumpkins leader Billy Corgan), Marilyn Manson decided to release a five-track EP of dance remixes and live songs. Diehard fans starved for more Manson product will eat it up...The group does show that they have what it takes to come up with sometimes interesting dance makeovers of popular songs (such as "The Horrible People," a reworking of their hit "The Beautiful People"), but the originals are better and definitive. You'll also find a pair of live tracks, "Dried Up, Tied and Dead to the World" and "Antichrist Superstar," which catch the band in all of their shock-rock glory. And closing the mini-album is a mellow acoustic piece (consisting of just guitar and voice, with a few sound effects here and there) entitled "Man That You Fear," which is a departure from their usual sound. If you're an M.M. completist, you'll want a copy...

My First MM Remix Album

I was really worried when I got this yesterday (Sept. 13, 2008). I chose to get this rather than an extra album by MM because I needed to see if the band could remix well. The Horrible People was a great remix of The Beautiful People. As a heard it I though "okay the ep is off to a good start". The Tourniquet Prosthetic Dance mix was okay but it got good at the chorus. I disagree with the the person who said the remixes are long and awkward, they were good. MM didn't dissapoint live either. Tracks 3 and 4 were great perfomances (especially 4). The acoustic version of MTYF was so good I like the song more because of it. Pick up this cd, you won't be dissapointed.

Reborn

Remix & Repent is not a whole album, or anything that most people would consider ‘new’. But for anyone out there who is a Manson fan, then these new versions of known songs are actually incredibly worthwhile. Antichrist Superstar has never sounded so good. The Horrible People and Tourniquet, albeit a little drawn out for the general populous, are both interesting versions of two of the best songs from the Antichrist Superstar album. The gem on this album however, is the very last track. The Man That You Fear is one of my favourite Manson songs, one of the most personal; this version carries a bomb-load of pain, depth and most importantly: weight. As with most of the songs on this album, I feel that the music has been reformed to fit the lyrics all the more potently. This album, in the end, is a simple remix. But if your Manson interest is more than just ‘an occasional phenomenon’ then you should give it a heartfelt listen. This is Brian Warner growing up, evolving, and no matter what the charts say or the general public mutter, he is going nowhere but up.

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Love him or hate him, the self-proclaimed "Antichrist Superstar" — Marilyn Manson — was indisputably among the most notorious and controversial entertainers of the 1990s. Celebrated by supporters as a crusader for free speech and denounced by detractors as little more than a poor man's Alice Cooper, Manson was the latest in a long line of shock rockers, rising to the top of the charts on a platform of sex, drugs, and Satanism. Though widely dismissed by critics, his brand of metal nevertheless...
