Oh my God....

In Chains... Alan Wilder Remix.

For all of you that are not familiar with Depeche Mode, Alan Wilder was the band member that left in 1995 after David Gahan drug overdose. Alan Wilder was the madtermind behind Enjoy the Silence, Personal Jesus, Master and the Serant and basically the gold era of the band. He was the one who too the album Songs of Faith and Devotion to a level where probably Pink Floyd has been and a little beyond.

"In Chains" is the first collaboration of Alan Wilder with the band in 16 years!

One can only imagine how Exiter, Ultra and the rest of the albums would have sound if Alan put his hand again behind the band. In Chains is a little example, a tiny view of his POWER creating music, atmospheres, elevating the moods to say the least.

C'mon guys

C'mon guys. We were already fans of your old tracks or we wouldn't have been so excited about ANY release you make. Sure, remixing them with a modern twist is pretty cool, and brings in more money, but 7 minutes of "thump thump thump, buzz tump" wasn't what Mode was about. Was it? Yeah, maybe we had to wait 4 years per album, but they were all cool as hell in their own right. I've collected import vinyls, image discs, and even a few colored vinyl albums I never even opened to play even one time). So I know you. Yes, I noticed the sound difference when Alan left the band but you kept at it. We also watched you grow after Vince left... That's what we like. When you keep at it and give us new tracks. You've done a few remix albums now, and as an avid fan, collector, and show goer, since 1984, I'd love to make this purchase but I just can't. I'm sure I'll debate it and want to... I'll for sure get the Alan Wilder remix and maybe a couple others. I'd say in the world of digital music, "collecting" is near it's end. We don't need to buy the complete album. Put pen to paper Martin.

Wilder vs. Gore

I cringed when I read the reviewer who said Alan Wilder was the key to Depeche Mode's gold era. Let's give credit where credit is due. Wilder did make contributions, especially as a musician, arranger, and producer, but Martin Gore has always been the principal songwriter for Depeche Mode since their second album "A Broken Frame" in 1982. It was Gore, not Wilder, who wrote Personal Jesus, Enjoy the Silence, and Master & Servant. Wilder did write a handful of songs over the years such as "The Great Outdoors," "Two Minute Warning," "The Landscape is Changing," "If You Want," and "In Your Memory." These are all great songs, but are only a drop in the bucket to what Gore has written.

As for the remixes I've always thought it is great that DM invites various DJs and musicians to reinterpret their music. They were one of the first bands in the late 80s to start this trend and I'm glad they continue to do so now.

Originally a product of Britain's new romantic movement, Depeche Mode went on to become the quintessential electro-pop band of the 1980s. One of the first acts to establish a musical identity based completely around the use of synthesizers, they began their existence as a bouncy dance-pop outfit but gradually developed a darker, more...
