Album Review

Remixes From the Underground is a two-disc set of remixes of Clan of Xymox's 2001 album, Notes From the Underground. With gothic dance music that combines Depeche Mode and Peter Murphy ("Anguish," remixed by Iris), new wave, electro-funk ("Something's Wrong," remixed by Angels & Agony), and industrial trance ("Number 1," remixed by Cut.Rate.Box), the record will probably seem strikingly eclectic to Xymox fans. Front 242 provides a satisfyingly experimental mix of "Anguish." Remixes From the Underground is designed for longtime followers of Clan of Xymox, a band that never really had the widespread recognition garnered by the Cure, Joy Division, and Depeche Mode.
