Check out these darkly playful Aussies

I stumbled on The Battery Kids while searching for Muse-esque and Muse inspired bands, and I was delightfully surprised by how much I enjoyed them on their own merits. There are many disparate influences coursing through this EP from Muse style rock and vocals, to jazz, to musical theater, to zombies/armagedon, to The Dear Hunter (band not movie), to Stevie Wonder (see Master Blaster cover). This kind of amalgamation may put some people off as there's a risk of there being 'something for everyone to dislike,' but for me, I love to coalescence of diverse musical styles with a contemporary hard rock back bone. I think this band has a lot of potential, and at the very least, they'll give you a hint of Muse while you're waiting for The Resistance to come out. According to their myspace page, The Battery Kids are working on mastering their first full length album, which I'm looking forward to.
