iTunes Review

An "overnight success" story nearly a decade in the making, Melissa Etheridge's raspy, dramatic voice echoes her long, frequently rough-and- tumble road to stardom. This 1993 album (the singer-songwriter's fourth) was a landmark in more ways than one, both breaking her through to a mass market (six million copies sold), and addressing rumors about her homosexuality with a bold frankness still rare a decade later. "Come to My Window" and the melodramatic "I'm the Only One" became two of the biggest radio and MTV hits of the decade, helping earn the singer a subsequent Grammy Award as Best Female Rock Vocalist, while the blues-shock catharsis of the title track and introspective "If I Wanted To" help cut through the classic-rock tics that sometimes limit Etheridge.

Yes I Am... A Fan...

This was the album that made me a fan. Surely we've all heard 'Come to My Window', but I like all three of the singles from this album but my favorite song which should have been a single is 'Silent Legacy. It's a must have. She's so great.

Melissa, the lesbian mother I never had.

My name is Jon Lui, "Come to my window" is the story life compacted into one homosexual melodious sound. Thank you Melissa.

Melissa Etheridge became one of the most popular recording artists of the '90s due to her mixture of confessional lyrics, pop-based folk-rock, and raspy, Janis Joplin/Rod Stewart-esque vocals. But the road to stardom was not all smooth sailing for Etheridge as she debated behind the scenes whether or not to disclose to the public that she was gay early on in her career. Born May 29, 1961, in Leavenworth, KS, Etheridge first picked up the guitar at the age of eight and began penning her own songs...
