A Moving Thesis on Grace

Andrew Peterson's "Resurrection Letters, Volume 2," according to information gleaned from his website, began as a series of texts posted by Mr. Peterson; one of the readers referred to them as "Resurrection Letters" and the idea took hold with him. He developed those messages into these songs, and they continue the same themes that I heard in the first record I bought of his, "Counting Stars" -- lead by example, explore the mystery of faith and the miracle of grace together, expose your flaws and your shortcomings, revel in God's endless willingness to forgive sin ("he throws them as far as east is from west"), be true to your spouse and your children, and don't hide your light from the world. In a world of lush arrangements and layer upon layer of multi-tracking, his music (and its message) sounds fresh and new. I'm new to Christian music (I played a month-long tour with Will McFarlane in the 1980's, long before I found my way in the faith) but he reminds me of David Wilcox, the acoustic guitarist and songwriter who writes songs so deftly on the cusp of faith that you don't realize how close you are to grace until the wisdom of what he has to say resonates with something in you. I believe that this "something" is the thing that urges us to search for God and, having found him, to follow, and Mr. Peterson's music pulls back the curtain just enough so that you can feel the warmth of God's grace and the endless capacity of his love for us. It's refreshing to get that in such a sweet, simple, and powerful collection of songs.

Authenticity at it's finest

I'm a new Peterson fan who actually found his music through the lesser known (but equally as brilliant) artist Andy Gullahorn. In finding these two Andrews, and for the sake of this specific review Andrew Peterson I feel as though I've uncovered a whole new genre of music, a genre ancient yet new to our current musical landscape- The genre of sincerity. Peterson has mastered the truest form of art, the composing of ones heart and soul into pure expression... specifically in his case through lyric and song. Peterson you've made yourself a fan for life!
