Album Review
Has anyone noticed the exorbitantly large number of "angry" metal bands of the late '90s and early 21st century? Quite a few bands seem to be waking up on the wrong side of the bed nowadays more than ever before, and Chimaira appear to be a group of fed-up chaps, as heard throughout their dripping with angst 2007 release, Resurrection. As with their past albums, vocalist Mark Hunter is still a hardcore barker, while guitarist Rob Arnold remains a connoisseur of thrash metal riffery. It turns out that unlike their 2005 self-titled effort, Resurrection (which is the group's first album to not be released via Roadrunner, their new home is Ferret Music) is a full band effort as far as the songwriting went. As a result, the album sounds like a big shiny metal machine firing on all cylinders, especially on such aggro-fests as the album-opening title track, "Pleasure in Pain," and "End It All." Resurrection does not suffer from false advertising as far as the album title goes — it truly sounds like the Chimaira chaps are reinvigorated and reborn.

An unforgiving brutal assault of metalcore!
With Chimaira's most recent album to date... (besides their 2009 release The Infection) brings the Cleveland, Ohio sextet (that's six latin) up to the charts of well known metal groups like Killswitch Engage, DragonForce (they were on a tour with KsE and DF with the No Fear Tour 2007 to support KSE's Daylight Dies album) and they left audience members sore backs from the force nd brutality of the show. Support Chimaira and go see them with Disturbed, Killswitch, and Lacuna Coil! They're on tour right now.
Awesome is an understatement
Chimaira came back with a vengance in 2007 with Resurrection. Re-united with their original drummer and with a new record label, this is by far their best effort yet. This album is simply fantastic from start to finish. I put the cd in my car and it didn't leave my cd player for a year and a half, yes it is that good. Worthless is a thrash monster, and Empire is as extreme as it gets! This is a great album because it shows diversity, the song Six is a progressive masterpiece, and they have matured as musicians and song writers and put out a great album with innovative metal music. Fans of heavy music will not be dissapointed with this album.
NOT A DULL MOMENT!!
This is my favorite Chimaira album. They put a lot of effort into it and it shOws. Turn it all the way up and enjoy that double bass drum along with some of the heaviest guitar riffs known to man. Blast it until your ears bleed. That's pleasure in pain.
