iTunes Review
Emmylou Harris helped assemble this tribute to her old singing partner, country-rock icon Gram Parsons, and her love and understanding of his music informs this collection. The musicians here are among the most sympathetic to Parsons’ cause, and their performances accentuate his greatness. Chrissie Hynde finds the sensual and seductive side of Parsons’ music with a rendition of “She” that lets Emmylou Harris find her groove. The Cowboy Junkies cast a hypnotic beauty over “Ooh Las Vegas,” which sounds like the soundtrack to a David Lynch film. Beck plays it straight and powerful for the Flying Burrito Brothers classic “Sin City.” Ex-Byrd and Burrito Brother Chris Hillman teams with Steve Earle for the pure country drive of “High Fashion Queen.” Sheryl Crow and Harris reveal the sweetness of “Juanita,” while Lucinda Williams and David Crosby tackle the complex and beautiful “Return of the Grievous Angel” with sensational results. Wilco and Whiskeytown—alt-country heroes who took a cue from Parsons—are natural fits. Harris assembled a tribute that stands as its own musical statement.

In the four decades since Chris Hillman introduced Gram to Emmylou in DC their influence on country rock has been
perhaps the most influential contribution to the music we love since Les Paul's contribution. Thankfully they both have
seen the need to continue to show the current generation what a great talent we experienced in Gram Parsons. All
contributors on this album are to be congratulated.
Exceptional tribute album
Standout tunes are:
Hot Burrito #1 -- Raul Malo's soulful voice gives this cover true emotional punch. Not a single note wrong.
Return of the Grievous Angel -- though it's a duet, this song really shines from Lucinda's performance
A Song for You -- Ryan Adams. 'Nough said.
In My Hour of Darkness -- a rollicking performance by all of the artists involved in this tribute album that somehow manages to convey hope and a certain innocence.
Love this album when it was first released in late 90s/early 00s and still enjoy it immensely, over 10 years later.
A Sublime Tribute Album
I had followed Emmylou Harris since her brilliant Wrecking Ball album…which led me to Gram Parsons work. This album covers his best songwriting with musicians who were perfect for the task of carrying out and interpreting his poetry and melodic brilliance to a new generation.I could say there were great moments on the disc, but every track had such depth, I wouldn't single out just one.I am so glad this was on I tunes! Thanks!
