oh mr. perry...

Lee Scratch Perry helped to create reggae music as we know it as is a hugely influential figure in music in general, so I feel like he deserves a certain amount of respect regardless of the quality of some of his releases. That being said this is far below par compared to his better efforts, and I wouldn't recommend spending money on it. If you want some more contemporary Scratch, check out Panic in Babylon.

Lee Perry the Alchemist. Live Up!

The Upsetter is back! and it looks like he already upset some peeps up in here! This is not Shaggy or Sean Paul... we have to re-aquire a fresh ear. If you're not into this album, check out some older Perry albums and see his progression as an artist over the years...he has produced for Bob Marley and Max Romeo. Listen to Super Ape. Classic Material. At this point, he is a master reggae music alchemist and is just playing with the elements of the genre. He is taking reggae to a new level. Lee Perry also has some great freestyle word association type stuff going on here. Real craft from a reggae legend! Never expect something from an album, you will enjoy more! Peace.

Entertaining...

I definitely think it's worth listening to with some close friends if your friends have the same humor as mine. It's like a more mainstream Wesley Willis. Good background music at a party or get together. Glorious.

Truth is, he's both, but more importantly, Lee Perry is a towering figure in reggae — a producer, mixer, and songwriter who, along with King Tubby, helped shape the sound of dub and made reggae music such a powerful part of the pop music world. Along with producing some of the most influential acts (Bob Marley & the Wailers and the Congos to name but two) in reggae history, Perry's approach to production and dub mixing...
