Revolution: Live By Candlelight - EP

Making good on its title, this awesome six-song video EP finds Miranda Lambert and band playing in front-porch-jam formation, surrounded by glowing candles. The setting is warm and inviting as Lambert's set plays not too unlike VH1's Storytellers where she talks intimately about some of the songs' origins and inspirations. "White Liar" opens with Lambert discussing how she penned the tune with her friend Natalie Hemby after listening to a lot of bluegrass — this version boasts some air-tight vocal harmonies and lightning-fast leads played against stand-up bass lines. Switching gears, "Dead Flowers" downshifts into a lovelorn ballad with an impassioned performance that plays on the heartstrings more than the acoustic strings. Lambert explains how "The House That Built Me" was found on a pitch CD that was intended for Blake Shelton, but the song really hit home with her. In the sparse version played here, you can really see how the narrative almost moves her to tears. She closes with a folky rendition of "Love Is Looking for You" from 2005's Kerosene.
