iTunes Review

Rhino Records’ Hi-Five concept is an interesting one: introduce people to an artist’s work by presenting their most popular and/or seminal works. The smooth adult-contemporary pop of “Cook With Honey” from 1973’s True Stories and Other Dreams is the most unexpected tune here. While the other four are all obvious classics from one of folk and adult-contemporary’s most formidable vocalists. Stephen Sondheim’s “Send In the Clowns” belongs to Collins. “Amazing Grace” is a spiritual made for Collins’ pristine vocal abilities. Her cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Suzanne” jumpstarted Cohen’s career. Ian Tyson’s “Someday Soon” from Collins’ seminal Who Knows Where The Time Goes album puts Collins in the saddle towards country-rock. A decent introduction, but any curious fan should attempt Judy Collins #3, Fifth Album, In My Life and Who Knows Where The Time Goes as well.
