Beautiful! A compilation of her early work.

This album may have been added to iTunes on May 7, 2007, but it was released in 1993, her seventh official release. This is a compilation of songs from her first six albums, leaning heavily on her first four (she has ten albums altogether), plus some rarities. "Feed The Fire" is from her fifth album Warpaint (1991). The "Acoustic Tribute Version" of the same song has Happy giving tribute to her important influences Yes, David Bowie and Kate Bush. "The Wretches Gone Awry" is from her first album, Rhodes I (1986). "Ode" is from her fourth album Ecto (1987). "I Say" is from her sixth album Equipoise (1993), as is the original version of "Save Our Souls" (here in a special acoustic version). "The Revelation" is from her second album, Rhodes II (1986). "Because I Learn" is from her third album Rearmament (1986, yes, she released 3 albums in one year). "If So" is from Ecto. The original "Given In" is from Rhodes I, but this is a special acoustic version. "In Hiding" is a special acoustic version of the song that originally appeared on Warpaint. "I Have A Heart" is from Rearmament. "Ashes To Ashes" is a David Bowie cover that originally appeared on a promo-only release called HR5. "Let Me Know, Love" is from Rhodes II. "Temporary and Eternal" is from Equipoise. "Summer" appears here for the first time. This album is a wonderful way to get immersed into Happy's music quickly. These songs showcase some of Happy's quieter music and is a perfect companion to her 1995 compilation The Keep (not yet on iTunes as of this writing). If you love these songs you'll probably love everything Happy does, though this is quite different from the electronics of Many Worlds Are Born Tonight or the bent pop of Building The Colossus.

Unique yet her influences are obvious.

She's been compared to everyone from Kate Bush & Annie Lennox to Peter Gabriel and David Bowie. But the truth is she's amazingly unique. You have to see her live to believe that she has that pure of a voice and that incredible range. If you doubt it check her out on youtube. She has to be the most talented obscure artist in the world...why the hell isn't she famous!!! Buy this CD and then buy all the rest. You can't be disappointed.

Multi-instrumentalist and studio engineer Happy Rhodes (b. Aug. 9, 1965; Poughkeepsie, NY) began recording her own compositions in the mid-'80s, and had amassed enough songs for two albums by the time she met Kevin Bartlett, the owner of Aural Gratification Records. During 1986, Bartlett released three cassettes of Rhodes' music (Happy Rhodes, Vol. 1, Vol. 2, and Rearmament), and followed them a year later with Ecto. The duo, as Bartlett/Rhodes, played many live shows during 1987, but no recorded...
